At the conclusion of our weekend break in Oxford in 2022, since we were in the area anyway, we drove the relatively short distance to Abingdon, en route to our home. It’s a town we’ve visited many times over the years because my wife’s cousin and his wife live there, and that was the reason to visit this time too. As it was, the cousin was working, but we still popped by to see his wife on the marina where they live as it seemed rude not to.

We didn’t get up to much in Abingdon but it’s a very picturesque town and somebody might want to see some photos of it.

We ate up a little time before intruding by taking a quick walk around the Abbey Gardens then strolled our usual route past St Helen’s church and along the part of the Thames that snakes through Abingdon.

There was some minor excitement here when we happened upon a group of men on motorbikes, mopeds, and scooters, all gathered outside one of the houses on the waterfront. They looked like they were up to no good – well, it looked like they were in the act of stealing a bike from that house – but as we got nearer one of them came over to us and told us that they were delivery drivers and were recovering a bike that had been stolen from one of them a few days before, using the tracker on it to locate the house. It sounded plausible and we certainly weren’t going to make a big deal of it.
