It was no secret that when Virgin Voyages announced plans for their cruise ships and who they would be aimed at, we were less than enthused. Our enthusiasm levels took a further dip when we saw a media spectacle aboard the ship that invited some of the worst people on to try to sell the ship to people like us. That was fine, we thought, because there are cruise lines for everyone.

And then the pandemic hit. And Scarlet Lady couldn’t cruise where she wanted. And time passed.

Eventually, the UK became one of the first areas to start to open up to cruising again and this meant that Virgin could cruise from here, but with the main ports already booked out they needed somewhere else and they ended up sailing from Portsmouth. Ten minutes walk from our house, in fact. All of a sudden, Scarlet Lady became very interesting indeed.
