After we’d briefly stopped at Lake Windermere and Grasmere in the Lake District I decided to take a more roundabout route on our continuing journey towards Scotland because the motorway didn’t really appeal to me and that’s how we ended up driving through and then getting out to take in the sea air of the coastal town of Maryport. We didn’t explore the town itself, instead just giving ourselves five minutes by the shore to take in the views across the Solway Firth and snap a few photos in the very strong wind whipping in from the sea.
