This will be a short post.
Following on from our day in Trondheim, we had a quiet day at sea, and it was very quiet for us. Breakfast, trivia, reading, lunch, reading, trivia, dinner, trivia, and bed would be a rough summary of what we got up to, although we also squeezed in buying some duty-free onboard – four litres of Jack Daniels for £55 was too good to pass up – and picking up some raffle tickets for a draw to be held at the end of the cruise. We didn’t win that, but the money was for a good cause.
We may not have got up to much but if you’re interested in seeing what sort of things there are to do aboard an Ambassador Cruise Line ship on a sea day then here’s the daily programme for this day.
It’s probably not unreasonable to assume that a sea day would be spent heavily in the company of alcohol, especially when there’s a drinks package that’s been purchased, and that’s generally not far off the mark where we’re concerned even if we’re not quite as on it as the early morning drinkers that cluster around pool areas on sunnier cruises. It’s not a hard and fast rule, but we won’t typically go for something alcoholic until after lunch, and when the weather is cooler then it might not be until late afternoon or closer to dinner time. As supporting evidence for what some people are claiming is a sign of common sense, here’s a hot drink we had on this sea day. We did like the Ambassador branding on the top.
With our next port of call being Tromsø we did have the experience of crossing over into the Arctic Circle at last on this sea day. On a previous cruise on Sky Princess we had technically crossed over this imaginary line, but it was only briefly and overnight while navigating around the top of Iceland and into one of its most northerly ports, so we don’t really count it even though Princess did print up certificates for everyone to take home. We’d expected that there might be a crossing the line ceremony on Ambience, much like those when crossing the equator on ships (which we’ve done a few times now) but on this cruise the occasion was barely mentioned. We made do with some distant views of the decidedly icy and snowy Norwegian landscape from our balcony.
To finish this day of relaxation aboard Ambassador Ambience, the usual look at what we had for dinner that evening and a shot from inside Raffles which served as our go-to venue before hitting the nightclub most nights.
