The final short stop to take some photographs on our day’s excursion in Uruguay was at the Montevideo Sign, something pretty much just for tourists I imagine, and the Uruguayan capital city’s equivalent of the Hollywood sign. We weren’t the only people there and some of those that were around seemed like locals. The sign itself overlooked a long stretch of beach with water showing the characteristic colouring of the Río de la Plata (i.e. brown from the silt). People seemed to enjoy the sign with many not just content to stand in front for photo memories but also to sit or stand on the sign for something special.

We didn’t stay very long at the Montevideo Sign as it was time for us to head back to the Star Princess cruise ship after this. This completed our visit to Uruguay and our excursion to the Juanico vineyard by steam train, a very enjoyable excursion indeed and one I’d recommend if you like vintage trains and drinking ridiculous amounts of wine. We would be heading out to sea this evening on our way south down the Atlantic, around Cape Horn, then north up the Pacific around South America.
