During our day visiting Reykjavík in 2015 one thing that really stood out was the volume and general quality of the street art in Iceland’s capital city. Whether this was some artistic counterpoint to the general bleakness of the Icelandic landscape in general I really couldn’t say but it was a welcome change to see so many brightly coloured and imaginative pieces in the city; the scale of some of the pieces was equally impressive. The majority of the art pieces we saw were towards the shoreline on the north side of Reykjavík, downhill from Hallgrimskirkja.

  1. I didn’t know Iceland had a street art scene! Definitely had to be in Reykjavik because that’s where the “biggest” building are. Personally, I thought the coolest thing was the giant sword. It’s somewhere between Reykjavik and the KEF airport. Have you seen it?

    • No, I’m not familiar with that piece, although if it’s not visible from the main road between the airport and the capital city then we wouldn’t have as we’ve only ever travelled between those two points on a bus.
