On one of my occasional wanders into Chichester Cathedral in August of 2011 I discovered an art exhibition was taking place featuring sculptures by Peter Eugene Ball. The art exhibition was titled Sacred and Profane and featured pieces of artwork in the sculptor’s typical style: elongated figures, religious in tone as befitting their presence in a cathedral, with an African tribal feel to them. To me, they wouldn’t have looked out of place in a Tim Burton movie or a Tool music video and, most importantly, I liked them. Not enough to buy one because they’re quite pricy and my wife would have had words if I’d come home and said “You know that new bathroom you keep talking about? Well look at this piece of art I bought today!”

Southsea Thai Food And Craft Festival 2011

They hold a regular Thai Food and Craft Festival in our part of the world almost every year, to the best of my knowledge, and while it’s been a while since we last attended one they have always been a riot of colours and smells and we enjoyed wandering the food stalls and craft stalls, loving the sights of the costumes, the dances, the music.

Sadly, we don’t actually like much of the cuisine from Thailand on account of its spiciness but what we do love are the memories that are triggered by this sort of event and our own visit to Thailand during our honeymoon cruise.
