AVG Antivirus Message

30 Jun 2008 11:51 by Mark

At work we have AVG Antivirus installed across the network. In addition to allowing for endless hours of fun as a few of us schedule continuous full tests on a totally computer-illiterate marketing manager's PC ("does anyone know why my machine is so slow?") AVG does a sterling job of protecting us from all the evil that abounds across the internet.

Some of its messages are a bit confusing though.

AVG Test

Test cannot be started because it already does not exist.

Whaaaa? Can't. Get. Head. Round. Concept. Where's Jean-Paul Sartre when you need him?

LOBO: I'm sorry it upset you so.

SALWA: We use AVG at work and have had no problems. At home I use Avast and, again, no problems.

I think that Grisoft are still working through issues with version 8. As for Salwa's comment, I'd like to point out that all virus software will detect one thing over another, but it's how damaging the detected one is. I have seen one get past antivirus whilst another hasn't many many times, but yet the damage done by making the wrong choice is always too late. AVG is in my opinion the best however, and I even still have version 3.2 here on floppy! (dunno why though)

You know, for me the best part is the word "already"...

"Test cannot be started because it doesn't exist" makes perfect sense (I think). Put the word "already" back in there, and nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn potch.

[that is the sound of my head exploding]

P.S. I suspect my computer is subject to the McAfee version of the trick you're playing on your marketing managers...

Hehe, this goes in my Error Message Hall of Fame right next to my favourite "ERROR: There is no message for this error"

Hehe, funny.

You should definitely submit it to TheDailyWTF.com's error'd section.
