Further Fictional Future Fun
16 Apr 2008 15:57 by Mark
Fun not guaranteed.Yes, as promised or, more accurately, generally hinted at previously here, it's another entry in the Vintage Ads Of Fictional Futures competition.
But wait! There's more! For a limited time only, for every one photoshopped entry posted in this post you'll receive another photoshopped entry absolutely free!!!. That's a saving of over nine in the scale that I'm currently using to measure savings. Wow!
The second one's pretty easy to identify; the first one probably less so if you're not a fan of incredibly well-written science fiction unless someone's gone out and invented some sort of engine that can search for information when you enter words you might spot in the advert. But I doubt that's happened.

"They'll bury us in a special live TV press conference with senators an popes an the President of Space," says me. "And there'll be cake an music an dancin bears an a crack team a animatronic talkin news generals to tell everybody about this bold new victory in the War on Us!"
"It's true," says Giblets. "We were a menace to our freedom and had to be stopped before we could threaten us again."
and the current posts are a little political (yawn) but still brilliant:
Barack Obama: The Final Throes! Pennsyltucky Bitterness Edition
It's time for another edition of BARACK OBAMA: THE FINAL THROES! Last week Giblets revealed the dangerous levels of pussification inherent in Obama's bowling skills and orange juice consumption while exploring the damage done by persistent rumors that the senator is secretly black. But this latest scandal has doomed the Obama campaign more than any dooming doom that has doomed it before, because this time Obama has Insulted America by saying that poor people in impoverished rural areas are somehow "bitter" about being poor and impoverished. For shame!
Well Giblets knows the real Americans of the heartland, Barack Obama. He has flown over them and driven past them and grimaced amiably in their direction on the way to hotel rooms on numerous occasions, and in that time he has come to appreciate their primitive yet unique culture. These salt-of-the-earth folk don't need your condescending liberal elitism to tell them how they feel! They need Giblets's condescending _conservative_ elitism to tell them how they feel!
"if you liked that, you'll also like" coupla library discoveries of mine of recent times:
"Radix" by A.A. Attanasio (1981 -- why have i never heard of this guy before?(!!))
"Malignos" by Richard Calder (annoying as fuck until you twig the style is not the author but the narrator, then it turns into a frequently-delighting half-mocking tip-of-the-hat to a lot of old overwrought style-heavy "classics" eg moorcock)
And good to see you back too after your March hiatus. Still follow you through RSS.
Glad you worked out the book. Everything by A.R. is great. Helps that he comes from an astronomy/physics background so knows what he's talking about. Just the right mix of realism and future-shock. I'll hunt down your recommendations. Having just read about Calder, his novels sound right up my alley. I'm currently reading Peter F. Hamilton's Mindstar novels and enjoying them.
