I know what you're thinking.

You're thinking: is that a woman carrying a naked, armless, headless mannequin through the street?

It is.

This will probably be my last post for a few weeks (and then expect a torrent) owing to an imminent trip across that there pond that separates the UK from the US. Washington, Boston, and New York await us and we're looking forward to seeing many highlights including Thanksgiving at first hand, the Patriots taking on Kansas at Gillette Stadium, a satellite due for launch next year being built, and even the delightful +Patricia Elizabeth in the flesh!

Unless the TSA probing is too much to bear. Then we'll cry and come straight back.

+Mark Hooper Have wanted to go back since I last went in 2008, when I stayed with random blog friends. Planning something similar and somehow ended up as an International judge at a Halloween ball in Salem, so will start there and then will be fitting in New York, Gettysburg, Pittsburgh, Niagra, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and then back to Salem, with time in Connecticut inbetween all that. Well that is a rough plan.

It's irritating. The 50% jury vote in the semis is supposed to offset bloc voting but all it's done is weight the balance in favour of bland entries. Romania were last, which helps, and weird, which helps. Iceland wasn't thrilling, but it was okay; I can see how it got through. - Mark H

10 minutes until the first semi final. As usual, I've not checked out the performers in advance; it's far more fun to be surprised and horrified in equal measure as it's performed live on television and the web. - Mark H

Austria first. Very 1980s look. Song is pretty unmemorable which is some achievement as it's still going. - Mark H
